Modern Men's Tailoring in London

If it’s a special occasion, why trust your tuxedo to a hire shop?

A Tuxedo (also known as a dinner jacket or dinner suit) is a very specific type of suit for special occasions. This suit is required when an invitation specifies Black Tie dress code.

It is a formal evening suit that is distinguished by the following details.

  • Satin on the jackets lapels.
  • Satin Covered Buttons.
  • A Satin Stripe down the edge of the trousers.

Traditionally a ‘black tie’ Tuxedo is black or midnight blue. However at Tailor Made London you can choose from a wide range of fabrics to choose the perfect colour for you. We also provide white dinner jackets for ‘white tie’ events.

A Tuxedo jacket normally has a peaked or shawl lapel however if you choose to you can also design your jacket with a notched lapel. We also create double breasted dinner jackets for those who want to stand out from the crowd.

The word Tuxedo came from America in around 1888. The suit was named after Tuxedo Park, where New York’s finest would go to party. Originally the term referred only to the jacket. When the jacket was later paired with its own unique trousers and accessories in the 1900s the term was used to describe the whole suit.

To begin with the Tuxedo was only worn in the evening, however since the 1960s it has been popular for American groomsmen to wear tuxedos at their wedding. This trend is also now becoming more popular in the UK.
